I recently discovered a section of 1/2 ” copper pipe is pressed against an electric cable. In NYC electric cable is coated with a bendable metalic shell. Here we call it greenfield cable.

My question is this:

I was told than when copper pipe touches another kind of metal, such as a nail. In the course of a few years, the area of the pipe that is in contact with the nail begins to rot until a hole is formed. This is due to a chemical reaction between the two different kinds of metal…
